Question Time with Andrew Davies AM

As part of our Leadership Skills Course held at Fforestfach Day Service we recently invited politicians who represent the Swansea area to come and meet up with adults with learning disabilities and to answer their questions on issues that affect them.

Labour Assembly Member Andrew Davies was kind enough to be the first to have a 'grilling' last Thursday 4th March and was asked some very tough questions on a range of subjects. An easy-read list of these can be downloaded HERE

He promises to take their thoughts and issues on board.

We have Dr Dai Lloyd AM from Plaid Cymru and Peter Black AM from the Liberal Democrats coming in next month to face the group and hopefully provide adults with learning disabilities a voice in politics that they do not usually have, especially with a General Election coming very soon.

Conservative Party candidates have so far not responded to our invitations.

'Calling 999' Booklet Press Release

The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust in partnership with Swansea People First, an organisation of and for People with Learning Disabilities have developed an easy read, pictorial booklet called 'What happens when you call 999'

The booklet advises people what questions will be asked when using the service, and what to do until help arrives.

Lynn Coleman, Learning Disability Coordinator from Swansea People First said
"This leaflet is the first one developed with the Ambulance Service specifically for people with learning disabilities and it has been a very positive and worthwhile partnership. We look forward to working together in the future"

The bilingual booklet has received an enthusiastic response from a number of organisations including Learning Disability Wales and The British Institute of Learning Disabilities and this work is a great example of developing information which is easy to use and understand.

Rachel Evans, Project Worker for 'Old Hands Warm Heart Carers Project', Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire said "this booklet gives very straight forward information and is a real gem as it reassures people about what to do in an emergency".

The booklet can be downloaded from The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust website: www.ambulance.wales.nhs.uk

For further information or to receive hard copies, please call The Partners in Healthcare team on 01792 776252 ext 5400 or e-mail ppi@ambulance.wales.nhs.uk
